Summary
Curved octagonal silver sauce label with reeded border and engraved with 'HARVEY'. Plain belcher chain attached by two rings. Makers' mark for Thomas Phipps and Edward Robinson II, London, 1807. Harvey Sauce was a brand of soy-based sauce first commercialised in the late 1700s which became very popular from 1850 to 1900. Recipes for the sauce were given in cookery books throughout the 1800s, and it is included in Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management where the recipe for Harvey Sauce includes malt vinegar, walnut ketchup, soy, cayenne, garlic and sliced shallots.

Attingham collection; bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
