Summary
One of twenty-three King's pattern large teaspoons engraved with the Berwick crest. Made to match the Berwick table service by Paul Storr. Makers' marks for W. Eley and W. Fern, London, 1807 (15 spoons); 1823 (8 spoons). 'King's pattern' is a 19th century British silver flatware pattern with fiddle stem edged with scroll design; shell in relief on face of stem-end and in reinforcement on the back of the bowl. Anthemion motif (stylised honeysuckle) featured in relief on face and back half way along the stem.
Provenance
Part of William Noel-Hill's Ambassadorial service. William Noel-Hill, 3rd Baron Berwick (1773-1842) who had been in Italy as British Envoy and Ambassador to the Kingdom of Naples and the Two Sicilies. By descent bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
