Eight silver-gilt cylindrical wine coasters, the sides pierced with a cast frieze of Bacchic putti, leopards and vines. Reeded rim with twisted ribbon decoration. Repeated leaf tip border to wooden base. Centre field engraved with the Berwick coat of arms. Stamped around the base: RUNDELL BRIDGE ET RUNDELL AURIFICES REGIS ET PRINCIPIS WALLIAE REGENTIS BRITANNIAS. Maker's mark for Paul Storr, London, 1818. Possibly designed by Thomas Stothard, R.A. A similar set of wine coasters marked by Paul Storr, 1814-1815, were supplied by Rundell's to the Lord Chamberlain's department for the Earl of Lonsdale and are engraved with the royal arms (private collection). In 1807 Paul Storr entered into a partnership agreement with the Royal Goldsmiths, Rundell, Bridge and Rundell and opened a workshop for them in Dean Street, Soho which he ran until 1819, mainly overseeing the work of other craftsmen.
