Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Richard Noel-Hill , 5th Baron Berwick of Atingham (1800-1861), attributed to Andrew Plimer (Wellington 1763 - Brighton 1837), circa 1825. Head and shoulder portrait of a young man, turned to the right, gazing at the spectator, in a black coat with collar high at the back, white neckcloth and bow-tie. Brown eyes, thick brown hair, large Roman nose and smiling expression. Sky background. Glazed in a convexed giltwood rectangular frame (broken). The sitter's apparent age and the style of his clothes suggest a date in the late 1820's, and the artist is probably Andrew Plimer, though it is not mentioned in Williamson, 'Plimer' (1903). Richard Noel-Hill (1800-61), eldest son of the 4th Baron Berwick, whom he succeeded in 1848. He was unmarried and the title and Attingham Park passed to his brother, William.
