Summary
Portrait miniature, oil on copper, An Unknown Priest, Italian School, circa 1820. Circular. Head and shoulders portrait of an priest, turned to the left, gazing to the left, Brown eyes, grey hair and aged about fifty, wearing a red and gold robe and white skull cap. Plain brown background. In a circular gilt brass frame with decorative border and wood back. The technique of painting miniatures in oil on copper usually signifies some form of commercial reproduction, especially in France and Italy. In this case it is probably a copy of the head from a larger portrait.
