Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, One of the Children of The Reverend Richard Noel-Hill, 4th Baron Berwick of Attingham (1774-1848) by William Grimaldi (Shoreditch 1751 – London 1830). Half-length portrait of a young child, blue eyes, fair hair, rosy complexion with blue shading. Wearing a white dress with a high waist. Plain buff background. In a rectangular ebonised frame with oval gilt-metal inner border. Lord Berwick had eight children, four sons and four daughters. Painted between 1805-1820, but is not mentioned in the Grimaldi Catalogue (1873).
Provenance
Probably commissioned by the sitter's parents, 4th Lord and Lady Berwick. By descent Attingham collection; bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
