Summary
Portrait miniature, gilt engraving on glass, Emperor Napoleon I, Emperor of France (1769–1821) after Giuseppe Longhi (Monza 1766 – 1831). Head and shoulder portrait of a man turned to the left, gazing to the left, in ceremonial robes and wearing the crown of Lombardy. 19th century copy of a portrait by Giuseppe Longhi, engraved in 1812 as a circle within an orobouros, a capital 'N' in a star beneath.
Provenance
Count de Chastelain collection; George Michael Wilson of Blackfriars; possibly 3rd Lord Berwick collection: William Noel-Hill, 3rd Baron Berwick (1773-1842). By descent bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
