A stuffed Hawksbill sea turtle with varnished shell and mouth painted red inside, flippers outstretched. Early 20th century. In the Attingham archive there is a bill dated 4th July 1811 for a 124lb turtle at a cost of £27.18.0. The document is held at Shropshire Archives 112/6/Box 51/36.
Provenance
From H.M.Customs and Excise July 1988 - confiscated specimen. Transferred to Attingham Park via David Winfield, National Trust Surveyor of Conservation in London.
