Summary
A giltwood open armchair, English, circa 1830, one of a pair. The rectangular padded and upholstered back in a moulded frame and with moulded and scroll-ended open arms with partial padding on in-curved moulded and scroll-carved arm supports. The seat over-stuffed and with moulded seat rails raised on a pair of turned and ring-turned front legs and rectangular-section outswept rear supports fitted with brass caps and castors. Upholstered in crimson silk damask.
Provenance
Attingham collection; listed in the Probate Inventory taken at Attingham Park in 1947 (p. 9) and in the Inventory taken there in 1953 (p.10). Bequeathed with the estate, house and partial contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) and transferred to the National Trust on 15th May 1953.
