Summary
Print, aquatint, Interior of Peaks Hole, Derbyshire (after Philip James de Loutherbourg) by William Pickett (1792-1820). Interior of a large cave, a touring (?) lady and gentleman inspect a straw bed, surrounded by peasants to the left. The opening to the cave frames the middle distance with shadowy rocks and figures beyond. Published by Robert Bowyer, Historic Gallery, Pall Mall, London in January 1805, from the original drawing for The Romantic and Picturesque Scenery of England and Wales, from Drawings made expressly for this undertaking by P.J. de Loutherbourg Esq., RA. Engraved by William Pickett and coloured by John Clark. Glazed, cream card mount and narrow moulded pine frame.
