Summary
One of two hard paste porcelain pot pourri vases with pierced inner dish or liner, circular base and dome cover with gilt finial. Goat's head handles, shaped reserves to rural scene with peasants and flowers, gilt borders, yellow ground. Decorated with flowerheads and insects. Made in Germany, circa 1880, in imitation of earlier Marcolini period at Meissen. Count C.Marcolini was the director at Meissen from 1774 and with Johann Elias Zeissig produced Louis XVI style wares.
Provenance
Attingham collection; bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
