Summary
A pair of Chinese export style baluster vases with straight neck, dome cover and gilt kylin finial. Hand painted in enamel colours with floral sprays around central armorial cartouche containing the Howard coat of arms. Cell pattern border to neck and cover. Made in France by Emile Samson between 1850 and 1890. Emile Samson was the most famous maker of reproduction porcelain, especially 18th century Meissen, Sevres and Chinese export. He was extremely skilful and sensitive, his reproductions are deceptively accurate. Usually all Samson products bear one or other of the Samson marks (various arrangements of S).
