Summary
A woman's bodice made from wine-coloured silk. It has a wide, shaped neckline with the bodice front gathered into pleats. The puffed sleeves are also gathered, decorated with self-coloured piping and strapwork. The right-hand sleeve is deteriorating, with the damage revealing that the piping was created using strands of wool wadding at the core. The reverse of the bodice has two diagonal lines of matching piping and is otherwise undecorated. It is fully lined in calico and fastens with a violet silk ribbon and seven hook and eye fastenings centre back, intact. A small paper label attached to the reverse of the bodice reads, "Wine Bodice. £10".
Provenance
Gift of Miss Ward.
