Summary
A woman's bodice, part of a dress, made from cream cashmere. The cashmere has been woven with a brown and pink abstract motif in wool across the main ground, with beige silk piping around the neckline, hem, shaped cuffs and sleeve-heads. It is fully lined in cream silk taffeta, with cotton cord lacing centre back and five boning strips.
Provenance
Gift of Miss Ward
Marks and inscriptions
Attached to cotton cord lacing centre back.: A piece of paper attached to the reverse of the bodice on the cotton cord lacing reads, "Material cashmere. Leaf design hand applied". This would seem to be a note attached by Mrs Adams when the dress was donated initially. Judith Dore has since changed the description to "woven". See associated photograph for further details.
