Summary
A man's Mess waistcoat, part of a uniform, made from scarlet wool facecloth with a scarlet silk twill back and adjustment strap and a black/white striped cotton sateen lining. The waistcoat has a stand-up collar backed with black silk twill and has decorative gold coloured braiding around the collar, front facings and around the pocket slits. The waistcoat front has decorative button "pips" but is fastenened using concealed hooks and eyes.
