Summary
A woman's petticoat made from black barege, a lightweight fabric created by blending silk and wool. The floor-length petticoat is predominantly black barege, with a deep band around the hem in a heavy linen/wool blend in black with a deep purple stripe. The skirt has a deep yoke made from plain unbleached linen along with an externally attached pocket made from unbleached linen and taupe cotton twill. Internally, the perricoat is fully lined in grey linen and fastens with cotton ties centre back. This was originally rather a smart skirt which has been historically repurposed to be used as a working garment, with the linen yoke, pocket and lining having being added at a later date.
