Summary
A child's coat for a girl or boy made from white cotton pique. The long-sleeved coat has a turned cuff trimmed with white Russian braid embroidery, with matching laid braid embroidery on the square collar, front facings, lower hem, patch pockets and back vent. The coat is partially lined in white cotton and fastens centre front with ten mother-of-pearl buttons, one missing.
Provenance
Gift of Irwin. A card found inside the coat pocket written by the donor reads, "A relic of the family of the Rev. Hartiman/Hartman (?), Malone Park, Belfast. The last member died recently a few days short of his hundredth birthday".
Marks and inscriptions
Inner seam centre back below collar.: A handwritten marking on an inner seam reads, "Irwin", the donor. Refer to notes in history tab, object originates from the Hartiman/Hartman family in Malone Park, Belfast. See associated photographs for further details.
