Summary
A woman's petticoat made from quilted black silk sateen. The floor-length petticoat, created to be worn over a crinoline, is quilted with wool interlining in a diaper pattern in black silk with contrasting gold coloured stitching, now tarnished/faded. The front panel of the skirt is quilted from waistline to hem, and fron hip to hem elsewhere, leaving the yoke at the sides and back unquilted. The quilted front panel has a concealed pocket, right hand side, made from brown linen. Internally, the petticoat is fully lined in white with black check glazed cotton and fastens with a linen gathering string around the waist, intact.
Provenance
Gift of Mrs Murdoch.
