Summary
A woman's down-filled petticoat made from printed cotton. The petticoat ground fabric is made from red cotton (Madder Red) with a printed design across the ground in a Paisley inspired pattern in yellow, blue, black and green, often called "Turkey Chintz". There are nine tubular stitched layers filled with down from hem to hip level, with the skirt yoke left unfilled and pleated into the waistband. Internally the petticoat is fully lined in red cotton and there is evidence of both machine and hand stitching around the waistband. There are insertion slits in the waistband for a gathering string, now missing. A label inside the waistband reads, 'McLintock's Purified Russian Down Petticoat. No.9 - 38 inches. 101/2. M Gill".
