Summary
A woman's "Cholera" belt, made from pale blue wool flannel. The belt is edged with cream silk satin and is partially lined centre front with white cotton calico. It fastens with eight fabric-covered metal buttons centre front, intact. Cholera belts were designed to protect the wearer from ailments that were believed to be caused by chilling of the abdomen (Cholera, Dysentery), and were standard army issue throughout the 19th century.
