Summary
Tempera painting on plaster, The Tale of Sir Degrevaunt: The Wedding Procession by Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones (Birmingham 1833 - London 1898), 1860. One of three paintings or frescos created directly onto plaster by Edward Burne-Jones. (see 60138,60140) The original intention to create a series of seven was not carried out. The subject comes from 'The Tale of Sir Degrevaunt'. 'The Wedding Procession' The newly wedded couple stand on the left watching and listening to three musicians; stringed instrument played with a bow, a singer, a player of bagpipes. The story of Sir Degrevaunt was published in the Camden Society's volume of Thornton Romances in 1844. Glazed with sheet glass in gold frame.
