Summary
A brass inlaid tortoiseshell, brass mounted and ebonised bureau Mazarin or writing table, French, circa 1850-70. Late 17th / early 18th century style, a drawer and recessed cupboard in the centre flanked by three drawers at each side, the reverse with a similar arrangement of dummy drawers and cupboard. Raised on square tapering legs linked by flat stretchers and turned feet. The top and sides veneered in tortoiseshell and engraved brass with arabesques and figures from the Italian comedies in the style of Berain.
