Summary
Stone head of lady with wimple. Fixed to the wall above the door to the garden.Old guide books refer to this as the head of Queen Philippa. The identification was based on a Queen Philippa's connection with York and similarities with a carving in the Minster, 1906 guidebook.
Provenance
It was found in the basement during excavations/alterations c.1897. See frag MS YCA Acc 4. It was fixed above the North door (see 1906 photo's). Great Hall 1900-1990(present)
