Summary
Charcoal and chalk portrait of Dr Thomas Simpson by Henry Smith, dated 1844. Portrait of a man, three-quarter length seated at a table, wearing a dark coat, waistcoat, tan breaches, high-necked shirt and black neck tie. His right arm rests on the table, his left hand on his left knee. Glazed with carved giltwood frame. Dr Thomas Simpson (c.1788-1863), was a prominent York surgeon and doctor who owned the NW wing of Treasurer's House between 1832 and 1863. This property was purchased by Frank Green in 1898 after the death of Simpson's heir, allowing him to reunite the house.
