Summary
Eight day quarter striking bracket clock, with calendar and moon phase indication, in boullework case, by Nicholas Fortin, Paris, c.1720 Three train, seven pillar, going barrel, quarter-striking movement with anchor escapement and count wheel striking and quarter striking. A separate, secondary movement is situated below the principle movement and is for calendar and moon phase indication.Pierced blued steel hands. The chased, matted and engraved gilt brass dial has white enamelled hour plaques inset, with blue enamelled roman numerals. There is a regulation square below XII. Below the main dial are dials for the calendar on the left and the lunar calendar and moon’s phase with tidal indications on the right. A white enamel plaque at the foot ot the dial plate is signed: “Nicholas Fortin A Paris”. The case is veneered in tortoise shell and brass boullework on an oak carcass, and is fitted with gilt brass mounts, including a figure of fame on the top. The bracket has matching veneers and mounts. Note. The movement has been converted to have a later, English form of anchor escapement.
