On front of image: bolt house opposite the dovecot in the grounds of wallington a farmhouse of this primitive Northumberland type, formerly inhabited by a family named 'bolt,' a member of which a clever forward boy at Cambo school, attracted the notice of archdeacon Sharpe, the vicar of the parish who took him into his service. Young bolt did well, cultivated himself, and worn the affections of miss (?) Sharpe and the archdeacon consented to their marriage on the condition that he took the name of Sharpe, upon which it was said that he 'went bolt into the church and came out Sharpe.' He afterwards took orders and became vicar of Bamburgh and his connection with the shadow family is recorded on a mural (?) in Bamburgh church. Archdeacon shadow of York and (?)
