Summary
Plasterwork ceiling. Massive squared and rectangular coffered ceiling with flower and stylised vine motif to underside of beams. Coffers are variously divided internally into squares or decorated with octagonal and oval wreaths of fruit. Divided coffers have guilloche decoration. All coffers have centrally placed floral ‘roses’ size variable with coffer. The only variation from this rule is where a beam soffit has had a flower replaced with a head in relief (1) said to have been placed there by Charles Trevelyan in 1929 and is a portrait of his daughter Pauline. Plasterwork is a combination of flatwork on lath embellished with run in-situ mouldings, hand modelled and cast decoration. Not fibrous plaster.
