A sampler with stylised border and verse. In the centre at the top are a boy and a girl sitting reading a book. To their left is a white dog and to their right are trees and flowers. In the centre at the bottom is a white horse pulling a plough and a man standing with a whip. He is dressed in white trousers and a red jacket. On either side is a tree, in blue, with a bird sitting at the top of each. Mary Simpson made the sampler in 1862 when she was in the thirteenth year of her age. The Rococo frame was made by her brother William.

In the glad morn of blooming youth/ The various threads of drew/ And pleased beheld the finished piece/ Rise glowing to the view/ Thus when bright youth shall charm no more/ And age has chilled my blood/ May I review my life and say/ Behold my works were good
