Summary
Plaster sculpture (circular medallion), Robert Browning (1812-1889) by Thomas Woolner RA (Hadleigh 1825 - London 1892),inscribed T. Woolner. Sc./1856. One of a pair. Brwoning was impressed with the bronze portrait medallion of Tennyson which he presented to him in July 1856 so commissioned one of himself. It was exhibited alongside the Tennyson at the Royal Academy and the Trevelyans acquired the plaster versions of both for the Central Hall at Wallington. Another plaster version is in the Australian National Galllery, given by the poet's cousin, Jane Eliza Browning of Melbourne.
