Marks and inscriptions
On the paper the seal is attached to - starts on the back.: The seal from which this impres sion is taken is cut in silver & was lately found in or near Exeter attached to a silver chain. The inscription is S. FRIS THOME. DENE. PRIOR. EXONIE. This Thomas Dene was in the year 1428. Impression of the Cluniac Priory now called the old abbey a mile below Exeter on the Exe The image is that of St James the great to whom the Priory is was dedicated. April 1822.
