Summary
A model boat made on the island of Hithadoo of palm wood by the islanders. This is a model of a Dhoni boat with six oars and a single sail used for going between the smaller islands. Such boats were used for fishing, carrying passengers etc. Made by local island craftsmen.
Provenance
Largely made for the R.A.F. personnel from the island of Gan as souvenirs or for the first few tourists who came to the island before the advent of large scale tourism. Bought in 1964.Gift from Mr Ronal Baxter
