Summary
Grey brown woollen dress with slight train, unlined skirt. Asymmetric front fastening on left, concealed, with 2 sets of poppers. Multi layered bodice. Front (a): lightly boned, twill woven silk lining with front fastening hooks and eyes. Waist belt embroidered with maker name. b. grey brown silk chiffon, heavily embellished with cord coils and random foliate pattern sleeves and bodice. c. Front infill is lightweight chiffon layer over which is metal thread embellished bobbin lace, then pleated chiffon cover. Bodice back has cord coils and random foliate pattern forms bodice back and continues as a tapering panel down centre back of skirt. Two narrow grey brown wool panels, bound with silk satin stitched on either side of skirt front, become a sort of waist band with a single large button at each side, where panels become waist band. Band continues round waist to back, terminating each side of the centre panel, with a button as at front. Buttons are interwoven corded silk.
