Full description
Single barrelled breech-loading pin-fire sporting gun by Lepage Freres, Paris c1865. The firm’s guns were made in Liege and sold in their Paris shop. The iron barrel of Damascus twist steel, formed in 2 stages, octagonal at the breech then round to the muzzle. The top of breech engraved, LEPAGE FRERES A’PARIS, 12 RUE D’ENGHIEN, together with the number 3953. The underside of breech stamped with Liege proof marks and the Serial No. 7037. Bead fore-sight. The barrel hinged to the engraved and chiselled steel standing breech. A barrel release lever (Lefauchex system) allows the barrel to tip down for loading and automatically sets the hammer to a safety position. Barrel length 76cm. Calibre 17mm pin-fire cartridge. Walnut butt, with an iron sling swivel. Engraved iron furniture comprising, butt-plate and trigger guard. The guard is of scrolling form with long rear tang. Back-action pin-fire lock, with engraved hammer. Retained to the stock by 1 side-nail. Overall length: 115.9cm
