Breech-loading sporting rifle, c1885, by Robert Adams & Co., London, (active 1881-1894). Octagonal steel barrel, the breech stamped with London Gunmakers Company proof marks and signed ADAMS & Co., 32 FINSBURY PAVEMENT, LONDON. Bead fore-sight at the muzzle and an adjustable 3-blade rear sight at the breech. Retained to the stock by 1 screw from underside of stock. Barrel length 67cm. Calibre .380 inch (9.6mm) centerfire cartridge. Walnut half-stock, with a chequered wrist and fore-end. Engraved steel furniture comprising, butt-plate (with the number 83 painted on). Breech-loading action using a “falling-block” breech (Martini-type) activated by an under-lever that also forms the trigger guard. Exposed hammer for manual cocking, which is set to half-cock by the action of depressing the trigger guard lever. Frame length 7cm. Overall length: 112.8cm
