Caption
Pamela Ward's collection contains numerous examples of fine treen, including this Tunbridge Ware candlestick holder. Tunbridge Ware pieces are typified by mosaic and inlaid decoration, originally made by craftsmen in Kent and the London area and sold in Tunbridge Wells, hence the name. Intricate marquetry patterns were produced using naturally contrasting woods, and pale wood such as holly was scorched or stained to produce shaded effects.
