Summary
Five silk brocade red and gold curtains with raised and embroidered panels on inner edge, remade in 1973. This set displayed in the Oriel window. One of a pair of long dark red damask curtains with decorative borders on both sides. The borders are made of pieces of plain and repp weave beige and cream silk applied to a dark red velvet ground outlined with laid and couched silk and metal wrapped cords forming a repeating design of trailing stems and leaves. The borders on the leading edges have a wide central panel edged on both sides with a narrow panel. The back edges have the narrow panel only. The curtains are lined with cream cotton sateen. The damask is modern (?1970s). The borders of an earlier date. .
