Summary
15th century plaster centrepiece in the form of a boss originally from one of the ribs separating the panels of the Great Hall ceiling which were removed around 1838, most being subsumed into the collections of the Bishop of Bath and Wells. This centrepiece, with a motif of intertwined yokes (the badge of Thomas Tropnell, c.1405 = 1488) was retrieved from the Palace of Wells by Colonel Floyd.
Provenance
Formerly in collection of Bishop of Bath and Wells and included on list of furniture inventory dated 1974 as part of the 1942 chattels given to the National Trust.
