Summary
A wooden longcase clock featuring a painted clock dial. The dial contains numbers for both hours and minutes, with a further two dials on the inside of the main dial. Of these two dials, the first counts in stages of ten up to sixty, presumably counting seconds, whilst the other dial goes up to 31, showing the date. The decoration of the dial contains two cottages closest to the three and nine, either side of the middle of the hands, with the outside of the dial cornered by four golden sea shells. The bottom of the dial contains a marking that appears to read 'H.Brookes Stowe'. Painted above the clock face is a personification of the moon, gazing down with a smiling face. This is all behind a clear glazed screen. The top of the clock has three pointed finials, one of which sits in the middle above the other two, which are symmetrical. There are two columns with metal tops and ring that sit either side of the weight box, although the number of weights has not been identified.
Provenance
On loan from Sir Edmund Fairfax-Lucy, 6th Bt (b. 1945).
