Summary
The carved oak bookcases which line the walls of the Library, carved by J. M. Willcox (d. 1859) of Warwick, after designs by Thomas Willement (1786 - 1871), installed when the library was built to house the Lucy's fine book collection. The chimney piece to the room is dated 1833. The bookcases of open form, beneath the room's strapwork frieze and all between pilasters topped by Corinthian capitals and carved with Mannerist motifs.
Provenance
Installed circa 1833; thence by descent and presented to the National Trust by Sir Montgomerie Fairfax-Lucy (1896 – 1965), two years after the death of his father, Sir Henry Ramsay-Fairfax, 3rd Bt. (1870 – 1944), with Charlecote Park and its chief contents, in 1946.
