A hand drawn bier would have been the standard mode of transport for a deseased villager to their funeral. Most villages would have a bier that would be kept in the church. This funeral bier has been painted in the Lucy family colours and looks a little more upmarket to the standard varnished finish. It dates from the mid to late nineteenth century and was most likely to have been built locally to Charlecote Park.
Summary
Funeral Bier. Funeral Bier (four wheels). A hand propelled funeral bier. Being painted and lined this bier has a slightly more upmarket appearance to the typical plain varnished village bier.
