Summary
Sculpture, stone, The Wild Boar. One of two carved stone boars mounted on gate pillars. It was thought to represent the Calydonian Boar killed by Meleager and based on an ancient marble marble, recorded as in the courtyard of the house of Paolo Ponti by Aldovrandi in his account of the ancient statues of Rome published with Fauno's guide of 1556. It was in the Pitti Palace by 1568 and since 1591 the Uffizi in Florence.
