Summary
Sculpture, alabaster, Vase with four Doves Drinking and Preening by Giuseppe Pisani (Carrara 1757 – Modena 1839). Large white alabaster bowl with four carved alabaster doves sitting on the rim. Ornate scroll handle on one side with remains of another on the opposite side. The bowl sits directly on a white alabaster square base and short stem with scroll detail. The alabaster sculpture rests on a grey veined marble column on double stepped Cipollino marble base (534020) George and Mary Elizabeth Hammond Lucy bought this alabaster vase with four carved doves during a holiday in Florence in the 1840s.
Provenance
Presented to the National Trust by Sir Montgomerie Fairfax-Lucy (1896 – 1965), two years after the death of his father, Sir Henry Ramsay-Fairfax, 3rd Bt (1870 – 1944), with Charlecote Park and its chief contents, in 1946.
