White marble sculpture, Mary Elizabeth Williams, Mrs George Hammond Lucy (1803 – 1890) by William Behnes (London 1795 - London 1864), inscribed W. Behnes Sculp. London 1830. A marble portrait bust of Mary Elizabeth Williams, (a young Welsh heiress who married George Hammond Lucy of Charlecote in 1822). Her hair is in ringlets and she wears a dress that drapes off her shoulders. The artist has conveyed some of her charm and vivacity. The bust sits on a small white marble circular base which then rests on a cylindrical plinth which has a square base of white and green marble (NT 524022). The sculpture was commissioned by the sitter in 1830.
