Summary
Open roasting range. The coal fire is controlled in size by cast iron cheeks worked by a crank handle. The spit racks move forward or backward from the fire at two levels and the spit mechanism above the hearth is operated by a large metal fan in the chimney. There are also two hobs on top for holding kettles and pans for primitive boiling.
Provenance
Presented to the National Trust by Sir Montgomerie Fairfax-Lucy (1896 – 1965), two years after the death of his father, Sir Henry Ramsay-Fairfax, 3rd Bt (1870 – 1944), with Charlecote Park and its chief contents, in 1946.
