Summary
A carved walnut companion settee, English, circa 1850. Comprises two tub chairs joined by a carved central arm. There are five legs, three at the front are carved scroll legs each and two sloping legs at the back, each with a brass castor. The rails of the seat are carved with flowers at each corner. The central piece features a large sunflower with a smaller carving. Attached to the central arm by a brass moveable arm is a circular table with a small rim. The seats are upholstered in a decorative blue patterned cotton which is then covered by a wool lined brown glazed chintz with patterned design, copied from the library wallpaper, which was designed by Thomas Willement. This is then covered by a later protective cover of a similar design.
