Summary
Sword and scabbard, with a gilt boat-shell type hilt, rounded gilt pommel and a twisted wire handle. The blade has a blue and gilt decoration which features floral motifs, standards and arms and a royal cypher. The leather scabbard, has gilt decoration and the locket is inscribed: 'J Read Maker 8 College Gr Dublin'. Part of a collection of twelve swords and scabbards.
Provenance
Presented to the National Trust by Sir Montgomerie Fairfax-Lucy (1896 – 1965), two years after the death of his father, Sir Henry Ramsay-Fairfax, 3rd Bt (1870 – 1944), with Charlecote Park and its chief contents, in 1946.
