Print, mezzotint, George Washington (1732-1799) by Thomas Hamilton Crawford (Glasgow 1860 - London 1948). Coloured print. George Washington one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He served as the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He presided over the convention that drafted the Constitution, which replaced the Articles of Confederation. The Constitution established the position of President of the republic. Washington was the first president of the republic.
