Summary
Letter to accompany the 9 graduated oval mosaics. Letter from Margot Greenwood to Huttleston dated 3.8.53, regarding Lord Fairhaven's mosaics and enclosing some original notes about them. '1826. I have ordered the Mosaics according to my own taste. I cannot abide the common design of the Buildings of Rome or Costumes, so I have ordered landscapes which Verdijo executed most beautifully. There will be nine pieces in the Necklace - the three large centre ones will be copies from Claude's Morning, Midday and Evening, two on each side of them Poufreic's, then Salvator Rosa's and then Claude's again ... .... Also I have ordered the drop will be a Rose and the ring a Bee essaying to settle on the same. Signed '... Jacob Salisbury'.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
