Full description
The corbels appear to have been removed from another structure or building and inlaid into the present arch at a later date, possibly when the door itself was installed in 1935. The door was made for Henry Cromwell (1659-1711) for Biggin House, Ramsey, Cambridgeshire, and was removed to Ramsey Abbey in 1737; it was given to Lord Fairhaven by Diana Broughton, then the owner of Ramsey Abbey, in 1935). The corbels may have come from a medieval church or abbey, or may be much later medieval revival sculptures. Alice Rylance-Watson 2019
