Summary
Silver gilt tapering cylindical tankard and cover, on moulded foot with scroll handle. The whole decorated with chased and applied groups of pagodas and figures with birds and animals under trees. Border to cover chased with blossom and thumbpiece formed as 2 wrestlers - Sumo. Javanese c.1721 or ?1821. Handwritten note by Lord Fairhaven - 'Engraved with arms of Richard Coffen Esq of Bushey, Herts, c.1721'. Weight 133 ozs.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
